Training opportunities exist for entry level firefighters in various regions.

For experienced hires, we recognize certification from accredited organizations and training facilities.

In some regions, there are also opportunities to work as a DND Fire Inspector/ Investigator.

Over 500 civilian (non-military) firefighters at DND respond to emergencies by:

• Rescuing people from high-risk situations such as burning buildings and vehicle accidents
• Combating structural, marine, aircraft and wildland fires
• Performing high angle rescues, vehicle extractions, water rescues, fire investigations, and life safety inspections
• Responding to hazardous material spills and releases
