Employment Equity

What is Employment Equity?

Employment Equity aims to address employment disadvantages historically experienced by women, Aboriginal peoples, persons with disabilities and members of visible minorities. Employment Equity is measured by the equitable representation, distribution and retention of these groups of persons at every level of the workforce.

Employment Equity Act

The Employment Equity Act requires employers to provide equal opportunities and removes barriers to employment to ensure all groups of people are represented in the workforce.

The objective is to achieve equality in the workplace so that no person is denied employment opportunities or benefits for reasons unrelated to their abilities.

The Act emphasizes fair treatment and the implementation of positive steps to achieve a representative workforce.

Employment Equity at DND means:

  • Barrier-free
  • Equality
  • Fairness
  • Inclusiveness
  • Representation
  • Respect
